Huawei employs over 1,200 employees in the U.S. in 13 offices and six R&D centers. We launched operations in the U.S. in 2001.

 

Every Huawei innovation stems from close interaction with customers to understand their needs and market demands. Huawei annually invests an average of 15% into R&D, and 45%, or 70,000 employees, are currently engaged in R&D. In the U.S., Huawei invested $276 million in R&D efforts in 2014.

 

A Leading Brand & Innovator

 

Recognized as a global innovator by The Economist and Fast Company magazines, Huawei operates a global network of 16 R&D centers, six of which are in the United States. In 2014 Huawei was named to Interbrand’s Top 100 Best Global Brands list, and was recognized by Thomson Reuters as one of the Top 100 Global Innovators.

 

Globally, Huawei was the third-largest Patent Cooperation Treaty applicant in 2013, with 2,094 filings, according to the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). As of 2013, we have filed for about 77,000 patent applications in total, and have been granted 36,511 patent licenses, 90% of which are patents for invention. Since 2008, Huawei has been a top 5 patent filer, according to WIPO.

 

As an active contributor and leader in more than 170 industry standards organizations, Huawei believes that standards are crucial to the industry. Standards encourage the innovation necessary to ensure interoperability, technical convergence, and the ability of our customers to scale their business to meet market demands, Huawei has filed over 28,000 proposals in aggregate, with over 5,000 standards proposals filed in 2013 alone.

 

USA Highlights

 

Huawei flag with USA flag and California state flagHuawei celebrated the grand opening of our Santa Clara, California, research and development facility in April 2011. The facility employs about 700 research engineers and scientists.

 

In July 2011, Huawei held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at our new Bridgewater, New Jersey, facility, the lead office for Huawei’s North American wireless R&D operations.

In October 2014, Huawei donated school supplies and dental kits to 270 children attending Washington Elementary in Stockton, Calif., as part of our expanding partnership with K to College, a nonprofit organization providing school supply and materials to children in need in California. Over 20 Huawei employees also volunteered at the event to hand out supplies to the children. This is the third consecutive year that Huawei partnered with K to College.
